Facebook Ads for Electricians: How to Get More Customers in the Netherlands

Dylan Kwant·June 29, 2026·6 min read

Electrical work is one of those services people don't think about until something goes wrong — or until they're renovating and suddenly need a full rewire. For electricians, that means demand is always there, but it's inconsistent and hard to predict. Facebook & Instagram ads won't change when people need an electrician, but they will make sure that when that moment comes, your name is the one they think of first.

This guide is written specifically for electricians working in the Netherlands, whether you're a sole trader or running a small installation company. Here's what actually works.

Why Facebook works for electricians

Electricians have two types of customers: people with an urgent problem (a fuse box that keeps tripping, no power in half the house) and people with a planned project (a new kitchen, a solar panel installation, a charging point for an EV). Facebook is less useful for the urgent emergency calls — that's where Google excels. But for the planned work, Facebook is one of the best tools available.

Homeowners in the Netherlands increasingly want electrical work done before they realise they need it urgently. EV charging points, solar panels, home automation systems, extra sockets in a renovated kitchen — these are purchases people think about for weeks before picking up the phone. A Facebook ad that appears during that thinking phase puts you at the front of their mind when they're ready to book.

The other reason Facebook works well for electricians is the job value. A home EV charger installation runs €400–800. A full fuse board replacement is €1,500–3,000. A solar panel installation is often €5,000 or more. At those values, even a campaign that costs €300/month in ad spend and brings in one or two enquiries has an excellent return.

Who to target

The most productive audience for most electricians is homeowners aged 30–60 within 15–25km of your base. In the Netherlands, that radius covers a practical working area for most sole traders and small teams — far enough to give you a decent audience size, close enough that you're not wasting time on the road between jobs.

Interest targeting that works well for electricians:

  • Solar panels and sustainability — people actively researching solar are going to need an installer. If you do solar installations, this is your highest-value audience.
  • Electric vehicles and home charging — EV ownership in the Netherlands is among the highest in Europe. Homeowners with an EV who don't yet have a home charger are a huge and growing segment.
  • Home improvement and renovation — renovation projects almost always include electrical work. Someone planning a kitchen renovation or an extension is a very likely electrical customer.
  • Homeowners aged 45–65 — older homes (pre-1990) are far more likely to have outdated fuse board wiring that needs upgrading. This demographic owns those homes.

Don't spread yourself too thin by targeting all of these at once with a small budget. Pick the service you most want to grow and target the audience that matches it.

What makes an electrician ad actually work

The biggest mistake is being generic. "Licensed electrician — call us for a quote" is what every electrician says. Nobody stops scrolling for that.

What works is being specific about either the service, the result, or the trust signal:

  • Name the specific job. "Want a home EV charger installed? We handle it in one day." is far more compelling than a general electrician ad. It speaks directly to someone who's been thinking about getting a home charger for their car.
  • Lead with a guarantee or credential. "Certified installer — all work fully compliant with Dutch electrical safety standards" immediately removes the hesitation about hiring someone unknown for work that has legal and safety implications.
  • Use real numbers. "Over 300 EV chargers installed across the Amsterdam region" builds credibility in a way that "years of experience" never does.
  • A photo of real work. A before-and-after of a fuse board upgrade, a clean EV charger installation on a modern garage wall, a neat solar installation on a Dutch roof — these perform far better than stock photos. People can tell the difference immediately, and for a service with serious safety implications, authenticity matters enormously.

Example ad copy

For EV charging point installation:
"Got an electric car but no home charger yet? We install a home charging point fully certified to Dutch electrical standards — inspection included. Fixed price, no surprises. Appointment within 5 working days. Request a free quote."

For fuse board replacement, targeting owners of older homes:
"Do you live in a home built before 1990? There's a good chance your fuse board needs replacing. We inspect for free and give you an honest quote — no obligation. Book an appointment."

For general installation work in a local area:
"Need electrical work done in [City] and the surrounding area? No long waiting times, fixed prices, and always a certified electrician. Call or book directly online."

Notice that all three are specific, address a concern (safety, waiting times, hidden costs), and end with a clear action. Keep the copy to three or four sentences. Your ad's job is to get the click, not to explain your entire service offering.

Budget guidance

Start at €8–12 per day. In most Dutch cities and suburban areas, this gives the Facebook algorithm enough daily reach — several hundred to a couple of thousand homeowners in your area — while spending enough to generate learning data without burning through budget unnecessarily.

Over a month, that's €240–360. For electrical work, a single new customer for a home charger or fuse board replacement pays for several months of ads. The maths are very favourable.

Run a new campaign for at least two full weeks before judging it. The first week Facebook is testing different people in your audience and learning who responds. By week two the results stabilise and you'll have a realistic cost-per-lead figure to work with.

When you scale, do it gradually — add €3–5 per day every couple of weeks rather than doubling overnight. Sudden increases often reset Facebook's learning and temporarily push your cost per lead up.

Seasonal patterns worth knowing

Electrical work in the Netherlands follows predictable seasonal patterns. Spring (March–May) is historically the busiest period for solar and EV charging installations — people want panels installed before summer. Autumn (September–November) brings renovation season as people prepare homes before winter. January tends to be slow across the board.

Run higher budgets during peak periods when demand is already there and your ad is more likely to hit someone who's actively ready to book. Pull back slightly during the quiet weeks of January–February. You don't need to pay to reach people who aren't in buying mode.

Converting a lead into a booked job

Electrical leads from Facebook are different from a direct referral. They've seen your ad and clicked — they're interested, but they haven't committed. Response speed makes an enormous difference here.

Calling or messaging a new lead within ten minutes of them submitting a form converts at a dramatically higher rate than following up hours later. By then, they've probably filled in three other forms. Set up a phone notification for new leads and make responding immediately a firm habit.

When you follow up, don't lead with pricing straight away. Offer a free inspection or no-obligation quote visit. Getting in front of a potential customer in person closes a far higher percentage than a back-and-forth over WhatsApp.
